In this session, Adv. Tehmina Arora talks about the Child Protection Policy in Indian Context, particularly dealing with the POCSO Act.
- Tehmina Arora serves as the Director of Advocacy, Asia with ADF International, specializing in constitutional law and human rights. Since joining ADF International as a legal consultant in 2012, Arora has focused on working with allied lawyers, providing legal support, training, and advocacy to help Christians and churches targeted for their faith across South Asia.
- Arora has led her team in over 100 victories before the Supreme Court of India and various high courts across India, including the successful challenge to an Indian law requiring religious converts to register with the state, securing compensation for victims of communal and targeted violence, and reopening places of worship that had been arbitrarily shut down.
- Before joining ADF International, Arora played a critical role in setting up the first legal assistance centre in the violence-hit district of Kandhamal, Odisha, an effort that extended vital legal support to victims in over 200 cases throughout 2008-2011. Arora also played a key role in the establishment of the Christian Legal Association, a national network of Christian lawyers, and served as its General Secretary from 2005 to 2010.
- Arora has written frequently on female foeticide and religious freedom in Asia and her articles have featured in national dailies in India and various journals abroad. She also serves on the board of several charities, including the Religious Liberty Partnership and the South Asia Institute of Advanced Christian Studies.
In 2018, Arora was awarded the Champion of Human Rights Award by the Delhi Minority Commission for her services to the community. In 2010, she participated in the International Visitors Leadership Program, a prestigious professional exchange program of the US State Department.
